Join a choir or ensemble! New members always welcome!
We believe that the arts are an integral part of our worship and the life of our community. With this in mind, the music and fine arts ministry at Hidenwood Presbyterian Church is dedicated to providing opportunities for everyone – old or young, advanced or beginner, musician or non-musician – to express their faith in ways meaningful to them. The Psalms tell us to “Make a joyful noise!” We hope that you take time to explore all of the music and fine arts ministries here and find your own way to do just that! Soli Deo Gloria! — Geoffrey Bell, Director of Music Ministries
Sanctuary Choir. Director: Geoffrey Bell, Thursdays, 7-8:30 p.m., Music Room. The Sanctuary Choir serves as the core of our music ministry at Hidenwood. All middle and high school, college, and adult singers interested in offering their voices to the glory of God in worship are invited to join the group. This choir leads the congregation in the traditional worship service every Sunday at 11 a.m. and at special services throughout the year, and presents seasonal major works and concerts. The Sanctuary Choir performs a wide variety of repertoire, from classical to contemporary, hymn arrangements to black gospel. Any person able to match pitch and carry a tune is invited to join – no audition or musical ability required!
Preschool Choir. (ages 3-5) Wednesdays, 12:30-1 p.m., Music Room. Our preschoolers are invited to join a children’s choir created especially for them! This fun group sings and learns to play simple instruments. The choir joins the church’s elementary school choir to sing for special programs several times a year during Hidenwood Presbyterian worship services (especially on Preschool Sunday!).
Celebration Band. Director: Geoffrey Bell, Sundays, 9 a.m., Sanctuary. The Celebration Band leads worship at the 8:30 a.m. service. Our team of instrumentalists provide musical accompaniment for the praise and worship songs, while singers provide both musical and worship leadership. Instrumentalists (guitars, flute, bass, strings, and any other instrument you might play!) and singers are always welcome to join the band. Technical helpers in the areas of sound equipment, setup crew, and PowerPoint will be trained to run the service on a rotating basis.
HidenBells. Director: Geoffrey Bell, Sundays, 12:15-1:15 p.m., Music Room. Hidenwood’s handbell choir rings the church’s four octaves of Schulmerich handbells. Rehearsals include ringing technique, reading of bell music, and exercises in rhythm and reading notes. Ringers and non-ringers of all levels are encouraged to join. All ages are welcome – adults, youth, and children!
Guitar Group. Director: Bill Lamont, Mondays, 7:30 p.m., Sanctuary. The Guitar Group serves as a fun outlet for those who play the guitar and folk instruments (banjo, fiddle, etc.) to get together and make music. Repertoire includes hymns, praise songs, and bluegrass. The group shares their talents with the congregation at the 8:30 a.m. service as well as at various events such as coffee houses, outdoor events, and other occasions throughout the year.
